Need for speed: How truck racing promotes the road transport industry

The 2024 British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) is currently in the middle of a spectacular calendar of events, featuring racing at iconic circuits such as Brands Hatch, Pembrey, Thruxton, Donington Park and Snetterton, as well as Le Mans in France.

Each race offers fans and participants alike a thrilling experience, with high-speed battles and dramatic moments guaranteed throughout the season.

With trucks weighing in at more than five tonnes and with engines producing more than 1000bhp, the BTRC is one of the largest sized motorsport categories in the UK, and is increasing in popularity with more teams and spectators turning out on race days.

One significant area of growth at this year’s championship is the increased focus on sustainability.

For example, fuel card and fleet management solutions provider, Silvey Fleet and fuel supplier BWOC have been appointed as sustainability partners of the BTRC 2024, and sole suppliers of Renewable Diesel (HVO) for race events over the course of the season.

Made from 100% renewable and sustainable feedstocks, HVO can achieve a net 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

It is a safe and easy alternative that can be used in place of conventional diesel without having to make any engine modifications.

The two companies will together be helping the BTRC significantly reduce CO2 emissions through the provision of HVO for race events throughout 2024.

Miriam James, Managing Director of Silvey Fleet said: “Partnering with the BTRC is an exciting opportunity for Silvey Fleet, allowing us to demonstrate our commitment to offering customers sustainable solutions, and play our part in shaping the energy transition.

“It is a prime example of how companies can collaborate and take action to decarbonise and contribute towards a more sustainable future.”

Amy Jones, Managing Director of BWOC added: “We want to help customers decarbonise by offering innovative fuel solutions that can help reduce their CO2 emissions.

“Supplying Renewable Diesel (HVO) to the BTRC will help ensure the organisation meets its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and enhance the positive impact racing can have on the world.”

Looking to capitalise on the exposure and excitement that involvement in the championship brings, Totalkare renewed its BTRC sponsorship for a second consecutive year in 2024, as the championship’s official workshop equipment partner.

The company provides mobile and fixed vehicle lifts, inspection pits, brake testers, wheel alignment systems and tyre changers, as well as assistance and maintenance services to customers.

Steve Braund, Marketing Manager of Totalkare said: “Last year was incredibly exciting, with unforgettable moments like Paul Rivett’s last-gasp win at Snetterton and Ryan Smith making his way through the field time and again to continue his domination of Division 1.

“We are eager to build on that excitement and contribute to another thrilling BTRC season.”

Meanwhile, Transport Monitoring Systems (TMS), specialist in the field of integrated vehicle cameras and telematics, is also a series partner for the 2024 season.

TMS provides in-vehicle telematics data along with fully support video recording and software for all participants in the championship.

This system provides on-demand video support for race officials over the course of the season.

Despite being a relatively new business in the camera and telematics marketplace, TMS has more than four decades of industry experience, with its core product being its software.

This software can receive data from more than 150 different connected camera systems, telematics devices and asset tracking solutions, allowing multiple types of systems to report to a single software platform.

In addition, the software has many other features that users can benefit from including visual driver ID, pre-use vehicle checks, maintenance scheduling and driver coaching tools.

A statement from TMS said: “Our cutting-edge Video Telematics Solution upholds the utmost standards of race safety while simultaneously fostering fan engagement through captivating content.”

This year, all makes truck and trailer parts provider TRP has continued in its role as the official parts partner for the championship, as well as provider of the official Pace Truck.

Also, after renewing its partnership with BTRC for a second consecutive season Dynes – renowned for its fleet of truck recovery vehicles – is on-hand at races to help move any stranded machines on the track.

As one of the UK’s most popular motorsport championships, the BTRC uses its platform to make a difference away from the racing, and this year, it has partnered with men’s mental health charity MANUP? to raise both funds and awareness, on and off the track.

Started in 2019, MANUP? exists to raise awareness about mental health among men, specifically breaking the stigma that surrounds the subject by encouraging openness.

A key objective of the charity is to promote the conversation – something that the championship is helping to do – and over the course of the season a wide range of fundraising initiatives have been taking place.

Dan Somers, MANUP? Chief Executive and Founder, said: “As part of my commitment to breaking the stigma around men’s mental health, I’m proud to be partnering with the British Truck Racing Championship.

“At MANUP?, we reach men where they are, and BTRC offers a unique opportunity to amplify this message.

“Despite the fact that we are competing on the track, we are also driving a crucial conversation that illustrates mental health awareness has no boundaries.”

The BTRC represents the pinnacle of truck racing in the UK and remains an exciting platform for companies and organisations across the road transport sector to showcase their brands and deliver important messages.
