Following the UK’s exit from the EU, CO2 fleet average regulations are now implemented for the UK in isolation from the EU. While the current EU regulations are retained in the UK, there are individual specificities for the UK market that need to be addressed such as average mass, derogations, pooling and eco-innovations as well as the use of On-Board Fuel Consumption Monitoring data.
In addition, the UK Government’s recent announcements on the end-of-sale of conventional petrol and diesel cars and vans and the ambition to end the sale of all non-zero emission road vehicles by 2040 highlighted the need for an expert group of members to input into the development of SMMT positions on the future of the regulations.
The Department for Transport have established a CO2 Technical Working Group to discuss such topics and the new SMMT CO2 TF will be the mirror group for that.
