Tyre technicians from across the UK have been invited to enter
the first ever NTDA / Dunlop Tyre Technician of the year competition with the
final taking place at the industry’s premier exhibition, InterTyre, on 1 May
2001 at the NEC, Birmingham.
The competition is open to all fitters, not just NTDA members,
and will test the ability of technicians across all aspects of the trade. The
first-round questions require answers on repairs, legality of spare wheels and
side wall markings. Moving into the final stages, fitters will be tested on
vehicle jacking, wheel balancing and even the safe stacking of tyres.
Speaking about the competition Richard Edy, NTDA Director said
‘Tyres are one of the most technologically advanced components on a modern vehicle
and the standard of the industry’s fitters now reflects this. At the heart of
the competition is the NTDA’s desire to promote safe practices across the industry’.
Aside from the coveted title of Tyre Technician of the Year
2001, the overall winner will receive a £1,000 first prize. Prizes will also
be given to all other finalists.
Early indications show that this brand new competition from
the NTDA is set to be a real hit.
