“August’s figures are level after the best start to bus and coach registrations for years,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive. “But business response to higher costs and lower consumer spending will cut future volumes. From June to August we also saw a slowdown in coach and midi bus figures. Increased bus use may stabilize demand but coach travel may drop.”
