- Heavy bus and coach sector holds firm in September with 338 registrations – the same as in 2010.
- Other sectors are less stable:
- Bus registrations fell 31% in September and by 24.6% for the rolling year.
- Coach volumes down 48.5% in the month and 17.2% for the rolling year.
- Overall bus and coach volumes down 33.1% in September and down 23.7% for the rolling year.
“Encouragingly, heavy buses and coaches held firm for the month and year-to-date, but the total bus and coach market fell 33% in September as confidence remains weak,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive. “To see sustainable growth, industry needs government to re-engage with the sector, delivering confidence through promoting targeted incentives such as the Green Bus Fund and the Bus Service Operator Grants.”
