Ford has announced details of its new Transit Courier and Transit Connect light commercial vehicles.
Following the reveal of the 2018 Transit Custom, the new Courier and Connect models are a part of Ford’s plan to renew its entire commercial vehicle range within the next 18 months, and all three are currently the best-sellers in their respective segments.
The Transit Connect benefits from the latest Ford engine technology, with the new 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine meeting Euro 6.2 emission standards, as well as offering reduced fuel consumption. It is also available with an updated version of the 1.0-litre petrol EcoBoost engine, including cylinder deactivation for further reductions in emissions and running costs. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard with an eight-speed automatic available as an option.
Visually the Transit Connect is distinguished from the outgoing model by a distinctive front grille and slimmer headlamps, which can be specified with Xenon and LED daytime running lights. Inside there is an upgraded cabin which is designed to be more comfortable and hard-wearing, as well as spacious and practical for busy users. Ford’s SYNC3 touchscreen infotainment system and advanced safety features such as Pre-Collision Assist are also available. Short and long wheelbase versions are available, with a load volume of up to 3.6 cubic metres and a payload capacity from 520 to 890kg in van, kombi and double-cab-in-van forms.
The Courier is the smallest model in the Transit range and can be specified with a 1.5-litre TDCi diesel or 1.0-litre petrol EcoBoost engine, both offered with a six-speed manual transmission as standard. Diesel models are also specified as standard with an efficiency pack which features optimized aero dynamics to improve aerodynamics and reduce warm-up time. Available in van and kombi bodystyles, the Transit Courier has a payload ranging from 500 to 590kg and load volumes up to 2.4 cubic metres.
“Ford’s latest Transit family has taken the European market by storm, and we have no intention of taking our foot off the gas,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe. “We’ve given our two smaller Transits a complete overhaul that makes them even more affordable to run, more stylish to look at, and ready to tackle every job our customers throw at them.”
