Largest percentage rise for 23 months boosted by 14.3% growth in private demand.

SMMT has published new car registration data for April 2012. New car registrations rose 3.3% in the month to 142,322 units.

New car volumes rose 1.8% in March to 372,835 new 12-plate registrations.

New car registrations fell 2.5% in February to 61,868 units.

New car registrations rose 0.03% to 128,853 units in January.

New car demand totalled 1,941,253 units in 2011, down 4.4% on 2010, but ahead of the 1.92 million forecast.

New car demand fell by 4.2% in November to 134,027 units, but was some 5,000 units above forecast.

New car registrations rose by 2.6% in October to 134,944 units, the second increase in three months.

The September plate-change saw 332,476 new cars registered, just 0.8% down on last year.
